Bridport Food Partnership is amongst the latest to achieve membership of the Sustainable Food Places network in supporting their efforts to make local, healthy and sustainable food available to all in their area.
Bridport Food Partnership is an inspirational example of how communities, businesses and local councils can work together to make affordable good food a defining characteristic of their place.
BFM Chair, Candida Dunford Wood said; “We’re delighted that Bridport has once again been put on the national map as a Sustainable Food Place – ten years after Food Future Bridport achieved that accolade.”
The Sustainable Food Places network works to tackle some of the biggest social, economic and environmental issues we face today. From food poverty and diet-related ill-health to the loss of independent high-street food businesses and family farms, climate change, biodiversity loss and food waste. There is no issue too big.
Leon Ballin, Sustainable Food Places Programme Manager said, “In over 100 places across the UK, individuals and organisations have been coming together to develop a joint vision of the kid of food culture and food system they would like to see, and they are working together to make that vision a reality. Bridport has shown a real ambition to transform this for the better and we are delighted to be able to support them in achieving their goals further.”
This success is a testament to the range of work that many community groups and organisations are doing to support a local food economy and measures to improve food security. We expect this will help us cement connections in the community and link with others in Dorset via the Feeding Dorset Partnership, which has also become a network member. We will launch this with a celebration in August, so watch this space…
